NEWS: February is a month of the year of many public celebrations and feast days, both secular and spiritual. We celebrate Presidents day, (formerly, Lincolns and Washington’s birthday) along with the Chair of Peter. Black History month, St. Valentine’s Day, and the beginning of Lent on Ash Wednesday. It is the month that Sr. Lucia, the last visionary of Fatima died on the 13th in 2005. It is also the feast day for the other two seers, St. Jacinta and Francisco on the 20th. St. Jacinta died on February 20th, 1920. February is a transforming month where the days begin to get longer with a forward look toward spring and preparation for Holy week. It is also very much a winter month where many skiers, skaters, and other outdoor enthusiasts enjoy the cold. It is a month where we deal with snow, school vacations and for some escape to a southern climate. The sunsets in February are breathtaking and overall the month is one of great hope and anticipation. February is also a month of transition which occurs often unaware as we come out on the other side with a sense of thaw and visions of warmer days ahead. We celebrate little Christmas on the 2nd along with the The Presentation of our Lord in the temple. This is considered the final day of Christmas, so we can all take down the decorations if we haven’t already. It is also a month of health considerations as we celebrate the Feast of our Lady of Lourdes on the 11th (Sunday this year) which is also the international day of prayer for the sick. On the Third of February don’t forget to get your throats blessed on the feast of St. Blaise. It is a month where we deal with colds and a season of flu. A time to keep our New Year’s resolutions going as we keep an eye on our physical conditioning. This year most forecasters say is going to be a year of significant changes and upheaval. Let us hope they are wrong, but many of us sense that something has gone very wrong in the world and the only way to correct it is through divine intervention. Let us make a commitment to our Lady in fulfilling her request by stepping up our efforts through our Lenten penance and prayer in doing our part in ushering in the Triumph of the Immaculate Heart of Mary in conjunction with all we will be celebrating this month.
